Elberta schools are above average and this appeals to younger families who want quality education for their children. And on Friday night home games at the local high school, the pride and support is apparent, nearly the whole town shows up to support their Elberta Warriors.
Life here is more reminiscent of the small towns of yesteryear. Founded in 1904 by German immigrants migrating from the Midwest on the promise that life here would allow for year-round farming due to the mild climate. Today, Elberta is still a largely rural farming area with fields of corn, cotton, soybeans, and more scattered throughout the area, owned by families who have been here for centuries. Within a 10-mile radius, you'll find the sugar sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, boat launches where you can launch your boat in the bay for a day of fun on the water. Or maybe you want to spend the day in the Josephine community checking out Bamahenge a lifesize replica of Englands' famous Stonehenge, be sure not to miss the lifesize dinosaurs scattered about near the site, then go on over to Barber Marina to see the Lady in the Bay before heading to Pirates Cove to hang out listening to live music, watching the kids or dogs play in the warm waters of Arnica Bay, sipping on Bushwakers and eating on of their famous cheeseburgers. Elberta is rich in history and small-town atmosphere if that's what you're looking for, you should look closely at this wonderful little community.
Elberta is a tapestry woven with German heritage, Southern hospitality, and endless coastal adventures.
